China wins first two gold medals of Paris Olympic Games

PARIS,  July 27: China got off to a flying start on the first  official day of competition in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, by winning  two gold medals before lunchtime, including the first gold of the Games.

The honor of winning the first gold medal went to Sheng Lihao and Huang  Yuting, who claimed a close 16-12 win over South Korean shooters in the  final of the 10m air rifle mixed team. Kazakhstan earlier won the  bronze in the event.

Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen quickly added China’s  second gold of the Paris Olympics when they won the synchronized 3m  springboard final, finishing ahead of the American pair of Sarah Bacon  and Kassidy Cook, who claimed silver, with Britain’s Yasmin Harper and  Scarlett Mew Jensen taking bronze.

A total of 14 gold medals will be won  on an opening day which also sees the final of the men’s Rugby 7-a-side  and the men and women’s road cycling time trials. (UNI)
