Chinese long jumper Huang wins virtual competition with season best

Beijing, May 30: World Indoor Championships medalist Huang Changzhou recorded a season best jump of 8.03 meters to take the men’s long jump victory in a virtual competition held by the Chinese national team today.
The virtual competition included three events – men’s and women’s long jump and women’s triple jump. Athletes took part in the competition, which was conducted through online live streaming, from their local training bases all over the country.
Asian Games runner-up Zhang Yaoguang from Liaoning Province took an early lead in the men’s long jump event with a first round jump of 8.01m. After landing at 8.00m in the third round, the 26-year-old chose to forego his last three jumps.
The 25-year-old Huang from Sichuan, who took bronze at the 2016 World Indoor Championships, jumped 8.03m in the fourth round to seize victory. Zhuang Jingqiang finished third at 7.89m.
2017 world U18 champion Gong Luying claimed the women’s long jump title at 6.36m while Yang Yang from Hubei Province won the women’s triple jump event with a personal best of 14.10m. (Agencies)
