JAMMU, Oct 4: In a thrilling match at the Maulana Azad Stadium, Konark Suryas Odisha secured a narrow 5-run victory over India Capitals in the Legends League Cricket 2024 (LLC), thanks to a solid innings from Kevin O’Brien and disciplined bowling performances.
After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Konark Suryas Odisha found themselves in early trouble at 12 for 2, with Richard Levi (1) and Jesse Ryder (3) dismissed cheaply. However, O’Brien and Dilshan Munaweera steadied the innings with a partnership of 77 runs for the third wicket. Munaweera contributed 33 runs off 44 balls before being dismissed by Iqbal Abdulla. O’Brien played a crucial role, finishing with unbeaten 55 runs from 46 balls, while Yusuf Pathan added 12 runs off 13 balls. Konark Suryas Odisha ended their innings at 127 for 4 in 20 overs.
Iqbal Abdulla was the standout bowler for India Capitals, taking 3 wickets for 16 runs in his 4 overs, while Dhawal Kulkarni chipped in with 1 wicket for 22 runs.
In response, India Capitals struggled to build momentum, losing their first two wickets for just 12 runs. Dwayne Smith and Faiz Fazal both fell cheaply, while skipper Ian Bell managed only 10 runs off 13 balls. Bharat Chipli, however, stood firm at the crease, scoring an impressive 61 runs off 48 balls. Despite his efforts, India Capitals could only manage 122 for 7 in their 20 overs.
The KNSO bowling attack was well-rounded, with Diwesh Pathania, Kevon Cooper, Shahbaz Nadeem, Pravin Tambe, KP Appanna, and Yusuf Pathan each taking a wicket, contributing to the team’s overall success.
This victory marks KSO’s second win in the tournament, showcasing their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
