KATRA, May 17: Following major fire in the ridge adjoining Banganga, the landing base of helicopters at Katra helipad was shifted to SMVD University, Kakryal even as the ongoing pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi remained uninterrupted.
According to SSP Reasi, Sujit Kumar, fire broke out this morning in the ridge adjoining area to Banganga and Helipad Katra at Old Dhrudh. The fire has covered about 10 kms of area and was not controlled till late this evening notwithstanding combined efforts of Fire Brigade, Police, Shrine Board and the Forest Department authorities.
In view of the major fire and the fast winds blowing, which may damage the flying machines, the Helipad authorities shifted their landing base from Katra helipad to Kakryal university. The authorities also shifted fuel stocks to safer places.
For security of helicopters at SMVDU, guard from Police Post Kakryal has been deployed, the SSP said.
