JAMMU, Dec 28: In order to bridge the gap between Police and Public, Range Police Headquarters Jammu in collaboration with Parade Sports Association, Jammu, organized a Veteran T-20 Cricket Tournament on the eve of New Year at Parade Ground, here today.
The tournament was inaugurated by Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu- Samba-Kathua, who was accompanied by Madan Jha, Circular Business Controller (CBC) Aircel and Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary of the tournament.
Two matches were played on the opening day today.
In the first match, Choudhary Club defeated Parade Sports Association by 65 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, Choudhary Club scored a handsome total of 180 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Narinder top scored with 71 runs, while Vinay contributed quick-fire 42 runs. For Parade Sports Association, Pardeep Bali and Sanjay Sharma took 2 wickets each, while Ashok and Anshuman claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Parade Sports Association bundled out for 115 runs to lose the match by 65 runs. Sandeep Singh top scored with 31 runs, while Akshay Khajuria contributed 22 runs. Bansi Lal bagged 3 wickets, while Sunil claimed 2 wickets for Choudhary Club. Hardeep, Rajesh, Vinay and Bhanu picked one wicket each. Narinder was adjudged man of the match.
In another match, JKP thrashed Atman Club by 9 wickets in a one-sided contest. Batting first, Atman scored a modest total of 122 runs in 18 overs. Mushtaq top scored with 50 runs, while Abhay Bakaya and Hilal scored 24 and 17 runs to the total respectively. For JKP, Rajesh Gill was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Naresh claimed one.
In reply, JKP chased the target in 12 overs by losing one wicket to win the match by 9 wickets. Rajesh Gill scored magnificent 79 runs, while Danny contributed 33 runs to the total . Rajesh Gil was adjudged man of the match for superb all-round show.
Meanwhile, Eleven Star will take on Guru Nanak Club in the 3rd Christmas Cup, while Samar Club will face Trikuta Cricket Club at the same venue tomorrow.
While speaking on the occasion, DIG Jammu said that the tournament has been organized for veteran cricketers, who remain busy in their day to day life and get less time for recreational activities. He said 6 veteran cricket teams are participating in the Tournament which include Choudhary Cricket-XI, Parade Sports Association, Senior Advocate XI, Aircell-XI, Atman Sports-XI and Senior JKP-XI.
DIG Jammu also said that making Veteran T-20 Cricket Tournament an annual feature, will be a priority for Jammu and Kashmir Police.
DIG Jammu said that range police Jammu has also organized various programmes under Civic Action Programme (CAP) viz. Awareness Programme on road safety, social evils, Anti-Drug Rallies, different sports activities etc in order to ensure people friendly policing.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, while prominent among others present on the occasion were Rakesh Singh, Sales Head Aircel, Anand Tripathi-Aircel; Rajnish Pran, SSP SO to DIG Jammu;  Parshotam Sharma, Deputy Director Prosecution, Abhay Bakaya,  Vijay Sabarwal president Parade Sports Association; Anil Mahajan, general secretary Parade Sports Association,  Sunil Sambyal, Advocate Ajay Manhas, David Matoo and Asif Gill.
