JAMMU, June 8: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former member State Advisory Board for Gujjars and Bakerwals, Abdul Hamid Choudhary today highlighted the plight of border area people.
Choudhary said that every time borders get disturbed these very people suffer and taking their woes into account is a welcome step.
He said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti too had pitched for safety and security of people living on borders during her recent tour to Suchetgarh in R S Pura area. This is a fact that India’s relations have improved with neighbouring countries like China, Pakistan and Bangladesh but there is need of doing more so that travel and trade is also encouraged with these nations.
Hamid added that it was a dream of Late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to develop Suchetgarh on the pattern of Wagah so that people-to-people contact between those living in Sialkot, Pakistan, across the International Border (IB) and those on this side of the fence is encouraged. Places like Shrine of Baba Chamliyal also need to be developed and travel and trade between such points must also be encouraged, he said.
