Climbing wall great addition to tourism related activities: Sports Minister

SRINAGAR, Sept 10: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib today inaugurated 18th North Zone Sport Climbing Championship at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), Nowgam.
The Championship has been organized by Directorate of Tourism in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and J&K Mountaineering and Trekking Club.
He said that the climbing wall is a great addition to the tourism related activities and will be fruitful and will boost the adventure tourism of the State.
Chib said that attempts of Tourism Department for organizing such events will boost the adventure tourism and are playing vital role for the upliftment of the economy of the people in the State.
He said that DYSS will provide any sought of help and coordination to any department for the promotion of such events in the State.
More than 100 participants from all Northern States like Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, ITBP, besides hosts J&K are participating in the championship. J&K is fielding two teams as J&K Red and J&K Blue.
The competition will be held for four days in different events like Speed, Bouldering and Lead, junior and senior in both male and female category.
Among others present were Director Tourism Talat Parvez, Director Youth Service and Sports, JP Singh, President J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club, Mohd Saleem Sheeshgar, Chairman North Zone Sports Climbing Board, S Batacharia, other officials of Government and Indian Mountaineering foundation.
