CM monitors relief works, directs for pacing up operations

JAMMU, Sept 14: As part of initiative to monitor relief and rehabilitation activities on daily basis, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today evening held a high level meeting and reviewed the pace and progress of operations of restoration and relief being undertaken in the Valley.
“Time bound relief and rehabilitation should be made available to those affected in the natural calamity and a coordinated approach has to be followed for reaching out to those in distress,” he added.
Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohd. Sagar, Minister for Urban Devleopment & ULB Nawang Rigzin Zora, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & FC Sham Lal Sharma, MoS(IC) Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Ajaz Ahmad Khan, MOS Home Sajad Kitchloo, MoS, Irrigation & Flood Control, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, MLA Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khandey, DGP, K. Rajindra and other senior officers of police and civil administration were present in the meeting.
The Ministers also briefed the Chief Minister about the situation in flood affected areas visited by them and projected immediate requirements of respective areas.
A detailed comprehensive review of the rehabilitation and relief works being undertaken by the line departments was taken and necessary directions were issued for immediate restoration of vital services.
Omar Abdullah said that over 90 relief trucks carrying food material have been dispatched in Srinagar city and more than 3000 LPG cylinders have been distributed in different affected areas.
He said over 40 tonnes of relief material has been distributed by NDRF boats and 4 RO water purification plants are functioning, adding that 12 more RO plants have been requisitioned to be placed at various locations.
He called for accelerating pace of dewatering and directed DG Fire Services, SMC and UEED to gear up men and machinery for ensuring early dewatering of the affected areas.
Underscoring on the need to provide proper medical care, the Chief Minister said temporary health camps have already been established and besides extending medical facilities the camps are disseminating necessary information about preventing diseases.
He said power supply has been restored in most parts of the state except in certain areas of Srinagar city where it would be repaired in next couple of days.
He directed that all the PHE schemes which have been hit by the floods and rain should be restored on priority.
He said with receding water levels and improving weather conditions the pace of relief and rehabilitation would further pick up and the administration would reach out to more number of people.
Chief Secretary briefed on the situation in south Kashmir and informed that the district administration has already started distribution of free ration in the affected areas.
