Col RN Chopra Academy Green lifts U-12 Challenge Cup title

JAMMU, Oct 29: Outplaying Academy Yellow by a narrow margin of 14 runs in the summit clash, Col RN Chopra Academy Green lifted the title trophy of the RN Chopra Challenge Cup Under-12 Boys Cricket Tournament at IIIM Academy Grounds, here today.
The final of Under-16 boys will be held tomorrow and the final of Under-14 boys on October 31, 2013 at the same venue. This tournament is the first of its kind in the State, which involved the budding cricketers under the age groups of 12, 14 and 16 years, simply a perfect platform for young cricketers to hone skill, held under the supervision of coaches Sukomal Ganguly and Deepak Dogra.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Academy Green scored 102 runs in the stipulated 16 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Ayush Andotra was the top scorer with 22 runs off equal number of balls, studded with 4 boundaries, while Arya Sachivansh Thakur scored 12 runs with 2 boundaries. Tanvir Singh and Danish Sharma chipped in with 9 runs each. For Academy Yellow, Praful was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 2 wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 17 runs, while Arihan Gupta, Pranav Dogra and Mavneek Singh shared 1 wicket apiece.
In reply, Academy Yellow managed to score 88 runs in 15.4 overs, thus lost the match by 14 runs. Gourav Choudhary and Arihan Gupta scored 12 runs each, while Praful Dhar contributed 8 runs to the total. For Academy Green, Jugjap Singh was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 5 important wickets, while Rishab captured 3 wickets. For his 5-wicket haul, Jugjap Singh was declared man of the match, while man of the series and best batsman award went to Arya Sachivansh Thakur for scoring over 100 runs in 3 matches and bagging 2 wickets in the tournament. Praful Dhar was adjudged best bowler of the tournament for capturing 9 wickets by bowling 12 overs in three matches, conceding 39 runs, while the best fielder award went to Mavneek Singh for displaying extraordinary fielding skills throughout the tournament.
The awards will be presented to these budding cricketers during the Prize Distribution Function to be held after the Under-14 boys final on October 31, 2013 at the same venue.
