JAMMU, Nov 7: The State Yoga Championship was held in the premises of Handa College of Education at Sainik Colony, here today.
The meet was declared open by the Director of Handa College of Education, Gurpreet Handa.
About 60 players had qualified to take part in the Championship after winning first three positions in their respective District Championships.
Yoga players from Srinagar, Rajouri, Udhampur, Ramnagar, Reasi and Jammu showcased excellent performance while performing different Asanas as prescribed in the syllabus.
Merit certificates and medals were awarded to the winners by S Rangil Singh, president Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
He encouraged the winning students and urged all other to improve their performance.
Also present on the occasion were Prof Ashutosh Sharma, general secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association and chairman Indian Olympic Association (Affiliation and Recognition), Dr Vikram Handa, Director Tiny Tots Group of Schools and Handa College of Education, Anshuman Sharma, general secretary J&K Yoga Association, Surinder Pathak, vice-president, officiating secretary and senior Yoga coach, Mukesh Kumar.
The gold medalists included Seerat, Simran Kumari, Muskan Rajput and Owaisa Khan in girls section, while in boys section, Ranjeet Singh, Tarun Kumar Nadeem and Ankleshwar claimed gold medals.
