College teachers urge Govt to remove anomalies in SRO-124

JAMMU, Aug 31: College Teachers Association has appealed the State Government to expedite the process for removal of anomalies in SRO-124, which is highly effecting the teaching fraternity in its present form.
“It has become very difficult for the College teachers to become eligible for higher grades due to certain conditions laid down in the SRO, which are not in conformity with the UGC guidelines,” said Sanjay Verma, president of the Association, while talking to media persons, here today.
Claiming that the Government has assured to look into the matter, he urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to expedite the process for removal of anomalies before enforcement of the Modal Code of Conduct ahead of Assembly elections.
Mr Verma also drew attention towards some other issues of the College teachers, which are directly linked with studies of the students and their examinations.  “Even as the first semester exams of the fresh batches in colleges are approaching nearer, the Jammu University has not yet come out clear with the assessment system, to be adopted under the newly introduced system,” he said.
The CTA president also appealed the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K to spare college teachers from elections duty as the examinations of first semester are likely to be held in first week of November. “The election duty will directly affect the working of college teachers and a resultant loss to the students,” he explained.
Reiterating the demand for enhancement of remuneration rates of evaluation of answer scripts and conduct of examinations, Mr Verma threatened that the Association would be forced to take some extreme steps for which Jammu University will be responsible.
The Association also appealed the Government for suitable transfer of those college teachers and Principals who have completed minimum tenure of posting in remote and far flung areas.
