JAMMU, May 30: The Jammu People’s Party (JPP) has urged upon the Union Government led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to compensate Jammu region in tourism development and providing due share of Central Govt jobs as declared recently.
While appreciating the Prime Minister for creating one lakh jobs for J&K State, president of the JPP, R K Chadha, vice president Vikram Gaur and general secretary Anil Sethi, in a joint statement here appealed the Government of India to create 50,000 jobs for the youth of Jammu region out of one lakh being created for the J&K State. They said immediate enrolling of Jammu youth should be started for this purpose.
Alleging that Jammu region has been discriminated against Kashmir region in tourism development, JPP leaders sought ‘as compensation’ to Jammu region with fund allocation to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore towards infrastructural development of Jammu tourism.
The JPP leaders appealed to the Prime Minister to allocate a separate fund of Rs 10,000 core for creation of infrastructure for Jammu tourism as this sector has been discriminated in the ratio of 90:10 percent as compared to Kashmir. This glaring act of discrimination has been detected through an RTI that out of Rs 2200 crore spent in previous three years in J&K, only Rs 100 crore were spent in Jammu region.
They said, there is 20 year perspective plan for sustainable development of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir State prepared by M/s Santek Consultants of Delhi. This plan is being used for development and promotion of tourism in Kashmir only and nothing is being done for Jammu region. Most of the Jammu leaders/ public representatives do not know about it.
They demanded that a specialist tourist consultancy agency from National or International sector, be engaged to prepare a tourist perspective development plan for Jammu region to cater to more than one crore tourists coming to Mata Vaishnodevi and for transit tourists going to Kashmir. Focus should also be there on the places along National Highway right from Lakhanpur to Banihal, they added.
