Comprehensive programme undertaken for development, beautification of old city: Sagar

SRINAGAR, Dec 23: Maintaining that comprehensive programme has been undertaken for development and beautification of the historic old city Srinagar, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that the present Coalition Government has ushered golden era of development in the State.
The Minister was addressing a huge gathering after jointly inaugurating the prestigious Makhdoom Sahib (RA) ropeway in the presence of Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir here today. The ropeway has been constructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation at a cost of Rs. 6.5 crore. Chairman Waqf Board, M.Y. Qadri, Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Tanvir Sadiq, MLC, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Secretary Tourism and Culture, Zaffar Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Commissioner SMC, Dr. G.N. Qasba, Director Tourism Kashmir, Talat Parvez, SSP Srinagar, Amit Kumar, MD JK Cable Car Corporation, Tufail Mattoo and other senior officers of different departments were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sagar said that Government has undertaken several measures for the sustained development of the Srinagar city which includes the road widening projects, construction of community halls in the city, upgradation of various schools including higher secondary schools, construction of bridges in the city besides a comprehensive project for developing the old city Srinagar on heritage pattern which would ensure that the tourist related activities pick up in this part of the state.
“To augment the power system in the city, a comprehensive project has been formulated at an estimated cost of Rs. 669 crores, which would ensure that the electric supply is streamlined and the people get the requisite supply of the much needed electricity without any delay”, Mr. Sagar maintained.
He while referring to the statements of certain political parties said that they are constantly trying to mislead the people by spreading all types of lies and falsehood. He said that it is a recorded history that all the prestigious projects of the Srinagar city were put in cold storage when they were in power and now they are trying to create confusion in the minds of the people.
”The people of the State are smart enough to recognize the developmental initiatives undertaken by the Government for their welfare and betterment and would give a befitting reply to these parties in near future”, he added.
The Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of tourism in elevating the socio-economic profile of the state and said that the industry has the scope of boosting the economic activities and providing the much needed employment opportunities to the youth of the State.
Mr. Mir said that the ropeway would go a long way in promoting the tourism related activities in the area besides providing an alternative means of transportation to the old and disabled people who come to pay obeisance at the revered shrine of Makhdoom Sahib (RA). He said that the Government has already undertaken the project of developing the area under the Naagar Nagar project so that a full tourist circuit is created in the area.
