SRINAGAR, May 22: Minister for Transport and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD), Ch. Mohammad Ramzan today chaired a meeting of CA&PD Department to take stock of availability of essential commodities beside reviewing the functioning of the department.
Secretary CA&PD, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Directors of CA&PD, Jammu/Kashmir and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
The Minister asked the CA&PD Directors to effectively monitor the distribution mechanism in the districts especially in hilly areas and ensure that due quota of ration reaches to the people in time. He asked them to coordinate and ensure availability of monthly quota at all the places particularly in Kupwara district.
Ch. Ramzan called for stern action against those dealers who violate the prescribed norms and also directed officers to conduct regular market checks to monitor rates and quality of essential commodities besides keeping a check on black marketing and profiteering.
The Minister also reviewed the preparation and distribution of new ration cards among the consumers and directed concerned officers to increase the tenure of ration card from 2 to 5 years from current year.
Ch Ramzan said that computerization of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) will be taken up soon with a view to ensure correct identification of beneficiaries, distribution of essential commodities to deserving beneficiaries, elimination of bogus ration cards etc. It would also enable timely availability of food grains at fair price shop checking of leakages/diversions of food grains, transparency and accountability in implementation of CA&PD Schemes, he added.
