Concern over deteriorating condition of temples

SRINAGAR, Nov 7: The United Kashmiriyat Forum (UKF) has expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the temples in the Kashmir valley.
In a statement, a spokesman of UKF said that an emergency meeting of executive members of forum was held here under the chairmanship of Bharat Raina. The spokesman said that 532 temples were gutted and looted during the past 20 years in the Kashmir valley.
“Raghunath Mandir situated near Fateh Kadal, one of the dream projects of Mahraja Ranbir Singh was looted and its buildings were gutted during militancy. Police failed to nab the culprits and in tracing 23 precious idols of this temple,” said the spokesman. He said the UKF had submitted a memorandum alongwith details and a CD to Governor N.N. Vohra, adding that despite assurance no action has been taken against people who gutted the temples.
The spokesman said that a detailed comprehensive project report was also submitted to Government of India for restoration of the temples. He said so far no headway has been made in this case with no light at the end of the tunnel vis-à-vis the improvement in condition of temples.
