Condemnations continue to pour in over levying of service tax on chopper service

JAMMU, Sept 10: Condemnation over levying of 12.5 per cent service tax on the chopper service at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra continued to pour in.
Condemning the decision of levying 12.5 per cent service tax on the chopper service at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi yatra by the Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu, which was taken by him without consulting the coalition partner, Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Vibodh Gupta asked the Finance Minister to immediately roll-back the anonymous decision as this is directly linked with the sentiments of a particular community. Vibodh asked the Finance Department to follow the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government which is providing different types of subsidies and increased facilities for the people irrespective of their caste and religion who are performing different types of pilgrimages across the country and the globe.
Chief Spokesperson of JKPCC Ravinder Sharma in a statement issued described the imposition of service tax on the air-facilities to pilgrims in the State as provocative action and a cruel joke with the religious sentiments of people. He warned that the steps like this can lead to serious consequences.
Kranti Dal (KD) activists held demonstration condemning the imposing of service tax on the chopper service. KD activists led by Chairman Anan Sharma and State President Pritam Sharma, raised slogans against Finance Minister and also burnt his effigy. The protestors demanded dismissal of Finance Minister and roll-back of the decision at the earliest.
National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) held a demonstration against the service tax on chopper service at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Amid slogans, the protesters led by Virender Singh, State president, NPSU, assembled outside Jammu University gate and burnt the effigy of Government. The protestors demanded immediate roll-back of the decision.
Working President, Congress, District Udhampur Anil Pachiala has demanded immediate roll-back of the Government’s decision for imposing service-tax on the chopper services at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. He asked the Government to desist from taking such type of decisions as these can create unwarranted atmosphere in the State.
