R.S PURA, May 22: District Development Council member of Territorial Constituency Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony on Saturday urged upon the government to conduct RT-PCR tests to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in rural areas.
In a handout, Tony said that presently RAT tests are being conducted for checking COVID-19 infection in rural belt but these being unreliable serve no purpose.
“The Corona infection spreads at a much faster pace leading to more and more people falling its prey,” he said adding that ramping up RT-PCR tests can only check the spread of infection.
The DDC member also highlighted the issue of defunct health sub centres in Suchetgarh and alleged that many such health facilities are being run by one man, who is either a pharmacist or a para-medic while many health centres are lying vacant.
“Magowal Health Sub Centre was run by a single pharmacist who was shifted to some other place forcing closure of the health facility. There are many more similar examples in the vicinity where there is dearth of manpower and other infrastructure,” he said adding that the concerned BMO failed to provide minimum facilities to the COVID-19-hit people.
The DDC member appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu and SDMs of R.S Pura and Bishnah areas to take care of people suffering in absence of healthcare facilities during the testing times.
