JAMMU, Mar 1: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations here today staged a protest demonstration against the Government’s decision to provide reservation to general category people with poor economic status.
In a handout J&K leader of the Confederation, R.K Kalsotra demanded implementation of Mandal Commission report and grant of 27 per cent reservation to the OBCs of the State and said that grant of reservation on basis of poor economic status to general categories will be protested in every nook and corner of the State.
He also said that successive Governments have failed to implement the Mandal Commission report in the State.
“It is an established fact that reservation to SCs was provided in 1972, STs in 1991 and OBCs like Lohars, Tarkhans, Jheewers, Teeli, Barbers etc—a combination of  Hindus and Muslims were granted a meagre two percent reservation in 1994 which is 25 percent less than that constitutionally recognized,” he claimed.
Kalsotra appealed to the Governor, Satya Pal Malik to revisit the Reservation Policy in J&K and give 27 per cent reservation to OBCs.
