ANANTNAG, Dec 7: A high-level Congress delegation led by it’s State president GA Mir visited residence of slain former Sarpanch Sajad Ahmad Malik at Batagund, Verinag in district Anantnag to offer deep condolences to bereaved family today.
The delegation compromising MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Usman Majeed, MLA Mohd Amin Bhat, PCC general secretaries Nazir Ahmad Khan, Hilal Ahmad Shah and senior leaders of the district. The delegation also met the people gathered at Batagund and listened to their grievances.
Congress leaders while consoling the bereaved family of Sajad Malik condemned the innocent killings in strongest words and described it as a move to vitiate the atmosphere again in the Valley. The delegation was apprised by the people that former Sarpanch was innocent and his killing is a political murder.
Congress delegation spent some time with the bereaved family and also met the people from across the Batagund village of Verinag. The people told the delegation that the killing of Malik was an orchestrated political murder and demanded stern action against the killers. They also urged that the killers be identified and punished for committing this heinous crime.
Congress leaders while assuaging the people of Batagund appealed them to maintain peace and do not indulge in any kind of confrontation, as the confrontation or violence will deteriorate the peace in the area, which should not happen.
Terming the killing of Malik as an organized political murder, Congress delegation lashed out at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for failing to protect the innocent people.
It was the prerogative of Chief Minister to order a Judicial probe at an initial stage of the killing, but this is unfortunate that she seems to be not concerned about the safety of people and warned the Govt of serious consequences, in case the killers of Sajad Malik and Assadullah Kumar of Devsar are not identified for severe punishment.
The Congress asked the Govt to order a Juridical probe into these killings and ensure that killers are identified for severe punishment.
