Cong demands relief package for veg-fruit growers

JAMMU, Nov 5: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, former MLC has urged the Government to access the loss caused to the farmers especially to the vegetable and fruit growers in Jammu province due to recent rains and heavy hailstones and grant adequate relief/package to them, at the earliest.
In a letter to the Governor Satya Pal Malik, Sharma has said that the vegetable and fruit growers in various parts of Jammu province have suffered immense loss to their crops due to heavy hailstones in areas like Sunderbani, Nowshera and adjoining parts of Akhnoor Sub-division, which have great potential of vegetable production. A large population is dependent mainly on vegetable growing and have suffered extensive loss. The Government must immediately take stock of the situation and announce the relief package, without loss of time, so that the affected farmers take up the follow up measures.
He also asked the Government to take adequate relief measures for the nomadic communities who, always become the worst victims of the vagaries of climate and lose their precious live stock.
