JAMMU, July 28: Former Union Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today said that Congress will press for the implementation of Food Security Bill in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to media-persons at the sidelines of a function organized here to pay tributes to former BCC president late Mohan Lal Sharma in Gandhi Nagar here today, Prof Soz said Congress will press for the implementation of Food Security Bill in the State. When asked that NC has already opposed the Bill, the PCC chief said that being chairman of the Coordination Committee, he will take up this issue with the coalition partners.
Highlighting the features of this Bill the PCC president said it is the land mark step of the Congress led UPA Govt to ensure legal guarantee to provide adequate quantity of quality food at the affordable prize to the people which would benefit more that 81 crore population in the country.
Replying to another question regarding prospects of Modi being next Prime Minister, the Congress leader said that as per mood of the people across the country, Modi can not become Prime Minister of the country. He said India is a grand democracy and its foundations are strong due to its pluralistic society and secularism. Sharing his personal assessment, he maintained that Modi’s chances to become Next PM are very remote.
Prof Soz said that after ensuring job guarantee to the poor people under MGNREGA Act, this is another unique initiative of the Congress Party to give legal right to the countrymen through a legislation for food at affordable prices. This will cover 75 % of rural and 50 % of urban population of the country.
When sought his comments on the issue of serious allegations being raised against the DyCM from his party by his personal staff member, the PCC chief said he will not comment on this issue. “Let the DyCM reply it. Moreover, law will take its own course,” Prof Soz maintained.
Earlier addressing party workers and others at the function, the PCC president said that Congress will emerge as single largest party in the State in the coming Assembly elections. He said there is positive change in the mindset of the people and the party is getting stronger in Kashmir valley as well. He also recalled the contribution of late Mohan Lal Sharma and paid him rich tributes.
Minister for Housing and Horticulture Raman Bhalla spoke on the occasion. Others present on the occasion included Dharam Pal Sharma, Th Hari Singh, Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma, Ashwani Puri and others.
