Cong reacts sharply to Venkaiah’s ”dynasty is nasty” remark

NEW DELHI: The Congress today reacted sharply to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s comment that ”dynasty in a democracy is nasty”, saying he might be reflecting on the situation prevailing in the BJP itself because of the hold of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.

“Kahin pe negahen, Kahin pe Nishana,”(Your words hide the real object of your target), senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said in response to Mr Naidu’s remarks.

The Vice President’s statement came days after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, while addressing students at the California university in Berkeley, had said that dynasties were common in India whether it was business or politics, but what was important was a person’s merit.

“Most parties in India have that problem So…Mr Akhilesh Yadav is a dynast. Mr Stalin (son of M Karunanidhi in DMK) is a dynast… even Abhishek Bachchhan is a dynast. So that’s how India runs. So don’t get after me because that’s how India is run,” he had said.

The BJP had launched a scathing attack on Mr Gandhi over his remark describing him as a ”failed dyanst” who had failed in his political journey.

Mr Naidu during a book launch had yesterday said, ‘A debate is taking place about dynasty. Dynasty and democracy cannot go together.?.. it weakens the system.” The Vice President had, however, added that he was not referring to any particular party.

Mr Tewari said that the hold of  ‘Modi-Shah” was so strong on the BJP that Mr Naidu as BJP leader and Minister might have been feeling suffocated but not given vent to his feeling earlier. (AGENCIES)
