JAMMU, Jan 27: Criticizing the Centre for downgrading the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) state to a Union Territory (UT), senior Congress leader Varun Magotra today said that Congress party is committed to restore the lost glory of the state when it will be in Government with the blessings of aggrieved citizens of J&K.
Magotra was addressing a meeting of Christian Colony, Jammu as a part of party’s door to door campaign to aware the people about the presented scenario erupted out of introduction of Citizen Amendment Act (CAA), NRC and abrogation of special status to J&K.
He lambasted the Modi led BJP Government for making mockery of the historical state of Dogra rulers. “This Dogra state was extended to Afghanistan and China by our brave rulers who set an example by strengthening the secular fabric but it is sorry to say that present Government is only working to widen the gap between New Delhi and J&K,” he added.
Advocating the cause of minorities in J&K, Magotra criticized the Central Government’s callous attitude towards minorities, saying all the welfare schemes initiated by the previous Congress led Government has either been vanished or their implementation shrunk due to paucity of funds.
Criticizing the recently concluded visit of 36 central ministers in J&K, Magotra said no one from them even a single word for the minority community and about 60000 casual workers expecting their regularization. Remembering the Congress leaders from the Christian community like Wazir Masih and Parkash Masih, he said their services will always inspire the upcoming budding leaders of the party.
