Congress tight-lipped on Kovind’s candidature, says final decision only after June 22 meet

NEW DELHI:  The Congress party today flayed the manner the BJP has “unilaterally” announced the candidature of a Dalit leader and Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind.

“This full-fledged announcement was not expected…The Opposition parties have decided to meet on June 22 for consultations to be presided over by Congress President Sonia Gandhi,” party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters here.

He said after the three-member BJP panel had met the Congress president and other opposition leaders, it was expected that the BJP-led NDA would first discuss the “specific names” with the opposition camp.  “Today’s development is like announcement of the candidate itself,” he said. (AGENCIES)
