Consider girl child as asset for nation: Sham

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 6: Red Cross Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar organized one day ‘Red Cross Mela’. On the occasion, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest whereas Taranjeet Singh Tony, District President, National Conference and AK Padha, Secretary, Red Cross Jammu, were the special guests. Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College in her welcome address called the Mela as a part of social responsibility and a path of selfless service of students for serving mankind. She expressed gratitude to the representatives of different business units, students of different educational institutions, floriculture Department, automobile industries, and sponsors of various units who had voluntarily come forward for the exhibition of different stalls with great enthusiasm and spirit. Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma in his address stressed upon the need of value education and considering girl child as an asset for the nation. Sharma urged the youngsters to come forward to donate generously for the district Red Cross Society to enable it to serve humanity at the time of the distress. TS Tony eulogized the efforts of the students for their selfless services and their contribution for blood donation, which would save the lives of thousands of people struggling for elixir of life. Later Sham Lal Sharma along with other dignitaries visited all the stalls and appreciated the students’ dedication and spirit for the noble cause. At the end, Dr Sudhanshu Sharma presented vote of thanks. Anam, Swati and Chahat conducted the proceedings of the programme.
