JAMMU, Feb 19: The General Category People’s Forum (GCPF) has urged upon the Union Government to set up Reservation Review Commission, consisting of renowned Jurists and social activists to make existing system of reservation in the country more useful, legal and beneficial for the educationally and economically backward families and warned various political parties to stop playing `dirty politics’ over the reservation issue.
In a meeting of the General Category Forum members held here today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, the speakers expressed deep concern over the politics being played by the political parties on Supreme Court’s verdict delivered on reservation and reservation in promotions. The Forum lauded the apex court verdict, upholding the decision of Uttrakhand Government for not granting reservation in promotions and terming it illegal.
The Forum demanded that Modi Government must set up Reservation Review Commission to bring reforms and make existing reservation system more affective for the over all benefit of all the sections of the society irrespective of any caste, religion, sect or region.
President of the Forum, Yash Paul Sanson added that reservation, reservation in promotion and exclusion of creamy layer from reservation, are three different issues and should not be clubbed together. While expressing his views, he said the court has not given its verdict against reservation but it has explained the Constitutional position.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary of the Forum said that continuation of reservation, with out any review is arbitrary and an insult to the principles of equality, justice and dignity. He demanded full implementation of Article14, 15 and 16 of the Constitution by removing reasonable restrictions imposed on their application. Sharma demanded special support measures for the upliftment of `poor caste’ besides 50 % cut in electricity and water bills and heavy reduction in taxes to provide relief to the poor and middle class people.
