JAMMU, Apr 11: The members of Contractors Association PW(R&B) Department held protest at Lok Nirman Bhawan, Rail Head complex here today.
The Association members led by its president, Narinder Gupta and general secretary Joy Khokhar assembled outside the office of Chief Engineer R&B at Lok Nirman Bhawan today and started protest demonstration. They were protesting against the implementation of Government order No. 122 of 1992 being implemented after three decades, and also registration cards to be renewed online only in R&B department.
Strong resentment was shown by the contractors against the contents of order No. 122, in which apart from affidavits and fee, certain certificates are required to be produced along with the cards like, Income Tax clearance certificate and others issued by the Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and Character Certificate to be issued by the SP concerned after CID verification, with the binding that registration should be renewed upto April 30 every year.
They said since the process of obtaining certificates and its procedure is lengthy and it may consume at least 3-4 months, it is therefore, requested that procedure be simplified. It may also delay the tender process and impact ongoing Govt projects.
