Srinagar, July 20: Police today arrested a Head Constable and suspended him for his involvement in drug trafficking.
Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar Dr Haseeb Mughal said here that they received information that Mohammad Altaf Rather son of Mohammad Akbar Rather of Panzan Chadoora presently working in Police Department as Head Constable , possessing huge quantity of charas and was wandering in Batmaloo area to trade.
“On this information case FIR No.64/19 U/s 8/20 NDPS act was registered and as part of inquiry police laid a naka near PCR Kashmir headed by SHO Batamaloo Subzar Ahmad, leading to apprehension of the policeman and recovery of 650 gms of charas from his possession along with cash amounting to Rs 19,150 (converted money) and one motorcycle bearing No. JK01S- 2152 has been seized, said the SSP.
Mughal said that police will go hard against drug peddlers in Srinagar. “Just as we have promised our anti drugs campaign to be ruthless and chilling, so it shall be. But more so when police personnel are involved, there will be no mercy,” he said.
Police in Anantnag arrested husband and wife for drug supply offences and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
Police established a check point near Arwani Crossing and arrested husband-wife duo identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat and his wife Haseena, residents of Hyder Colony Sopore.
“Contraband substance charas has been recovered by the officers from their possession. Both were taken to Police Station Bijbehara where they remain in custody”, police said.
Police said a case (FIR No. 104/2019) under relevant Sections of law has been registered and investigation initiated in the matter.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace”, police said.
