3 militants arrested in Kupwara forests

Jammu, May 21: A cop was martyred and two others including a para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man were injured in a militant attack on a joint police and paramilitary CRPF in Pulwama district of South Kashmir today.
Militants fired indiscriminately at a joint naka party near Prichoo area of Pulwama district, resulting in injuries to two policemen and one CRPF man who were removed to Sub District Hospital Pulwama for treatment.
One of the cops identified as Anoop Singh of IRP 10th battalion of village Saidapora Tahab in Pulwama district was declared as brought dead at the hospital while injured have been identified as Mohammad Ibrahim of 282 IRP of Kishtwar and CRPF man Krishna Kumar.
The critically injured cop was referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for specialized treatment. The CPRF man is undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger.
Security forces including police, CRPF and Army cordoned off the entire area and launched searches against the militants responsible for the attack.
Late in the evening, wreath laying ceremony of the martyred cop was held at DPL Pulwama which was attended besides others by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and IG CRPF, Rajesh Kumar.
And in the meantime, a drone camera flying over the 50 RR Army camp at Kakapora near Railway bridge on Srinagar-Pulwama road and the Army personnel deployed there fired upon drone and destroyed it.
Police Vijay Kumar said that three militants were apprehended after a brief shoot out in Lolab forest area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
He said that a picture today went viral on social media with three youth holding AK-47 rifles, who claimed to have joined militancy. They were identified as Aabid Hussain Wani son of Gulzar Ahmad, resident of Lalpora, Zakir Rafiq Bhat son of Abdul Rashid resident of Lalpora and Javid Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Thayan Kalaroos.
He said that prompt action by the police revealed their presence in the forest area of Gungbugh in Lolab. “Kupwara police along with 28RR and 162Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area. During the search operation they started firing on the search party”, he said.
“However, repeated announcements were made to persuade them to surrender and after a brief shootout all the three were apprehended alive during the operation. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession”, he said.
A case (FIR No. 54/2020 under relevant Sections of law) was registered at Police Station Sogam and investigation set into motion.
He said that preliminary investigation revaled that the trio was in contact with their handlers across via social media, who motivated them to pick arms and join militancy. “However, the swift intervention of police and security forces not only led to their prompt tracing but also in saving the precious lives of these misguided youth”, he said.
