Copper futures rise on global cues, spot demand

NEW DELHI, May 22:  Supported by a firm global trend and increased domestic demand, copper prices rose 0.45 per cent to Rs 409.65 per kg in futures trade today.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June traded higher by Rs 1.85, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 409.65 per kg in business turnover of 290 lots.
The metal for delivery in August edged also up by Rs 1.55,
or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 412.05 per kg in 15 lots.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months added 0.70 per cent to USD 6,877.50 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
Market analysts said besides increased demand from consuming industries, a firming overseas trend on indication of an improvement in Chinese manufacturing activity in May, boosting demand prospects in the world’s biggest consumer of industrial metals, mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade.
