Copper futures rise on global cues, spot demand

NEW DELHI, Mar 18: Buoyed by a firm global trend and increased domestic demand, copper prices rose by 0.77 per cent to Rs 404.90 per kg in futures trade today.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 3.10, or 0.77 per cent, to Rs 404.90 per kg in business turnover of 1,741 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in June edged up by Rs 2.90, or 0.72 per cent, to Rs 408.25 per kg in 26 lots.
Market analysts said besides increased demand from consuming industries, a firming trend in the entire base metals pack at the London Metal Exchange (LME) influenced copper prices at futures trade here.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.8 per cent to USD 6,531.75 a tonne at the LME, at Shanghai Futures Exchange, the metal for June delivery rose 2.20 per cent to 45,170 yuan (USD 7,306) a tonne. (AGENCIES)
