JAMMU, Jan 21: Core Group of Security today devised strategy to counter infiltration attempts on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and meet any kind of terror threats with Intelligence inputs suggesting heavy presence of militants across LoC and IB awaiting for an opportunity to sneak into this side.
The Core Group meeting co-chaired by General Officer Commanding (GOC) 16 Corps Lt Gen AK Sharma and Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Shesh Pal Vaid at 16 Corps Headquarters today said Army and police were ready to face any kind of challenges both along the borders as well as hinterland and would thwart evil designs of the terrorists.
Dr Vaid told the Excelsior after the meeting that all aspects of security situation in Jammu region including the LoC and IB figured in the meeting and security forces devised fool-proof strategy to counter any kind of militant threats, both along the borders and internal areas.
“Security for Republic Day functions was also reviewed in view of Intelligence inputs,” he said.
The Director General of Police said all security agencies gave their view points on security scenario in the Jammu region and finally a strategy was devised to counter any kind of terror threat from across the border, aimed at disturbing peace in Jammu region.
Top officials of Army, BSF, CRPF, police, civil administration and Intelligence agencies were present in the meeting.
GOC 16 Corps Lt Gen AK Sharma told the Core Group meeting that Army was ready to face any challenges whether on the LoC or in hinterland and was well prepared in all respects to assist the civil administration.
Official sources said the Core Group chalked out joint strategy by all agencies to ensure peace and stability in the region and peaceful Republic Day celebrations, both of which were on hit list of the militants sitting across LoC and IB, who were hell bent to disturb peace in the region.
Quoting Intelligence inputs, sources said the militants had activated themselves across LoC opposite twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch and IB across three border districts of Jammu region including Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts.
Sources said the Core Group meeting decided to further strengthen Security Grid along LoC and IB to counter infiltration attempts by the militants, who were plotting to sneak into Jammu and target vital installations and public places especially along the National Highway.
Recently, the BSF had foiled one such attempt in Samba sector along the International Border by a group of four to five militants by killing one of the militants and forcing others to retreat.
Lt Gen AK Sharma and Dr SP Vaid appreciated the high levels of synergy in operations exhibited by all agencies in recent times. They encouraged all the officers present in the Core Group to meet the security challenges and work towards enhancing confidence amongst the people.
They further emphasized the requirement to be vigilant, alive and responsive to any developing security situation and ensure a peaceful and conducive environment in the region.
