Govt sanctions Rs 1 lakh relief to victims’ families

JAMMU, Mar 31: Six persons including a couple, were killed in a tragic road accident in Darhal area of district Rajouri last night while one person died in another mishap in Mendhar area of Poonch this evening.
Official sources said that mishap took place at around 12.45 midnight when the ill-fated Tata Magic vehicle, bearing registration No. JK11C/ 1486 was on way to village Sabzi in Dodaj area of Darhal from Jammu. Total seven persons were on board the vehicle. They all were family members and relatives.

After medical check up of the heart patient, Resham Bi (56), wife of Mohammed Hussain in Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu, they were returning to their home in Darhal area. They had gone to Jammu on Friday. They left Jammu late in the evening and had brief halt at Rajouri. They earlier, made up mind to stay there but later decided to reach home as it was hardly a journey of nearly one and half hour.
After crossing new bridge near Ujhan as they were moving on this rough and hilly road at around 1.45 am, the driver lost control at a sharp curve and the Tata Magic vehicle rolled down into nearly 60 feet deep gorge. It was pitch- dark all around in the area. Some people heard the cries of the victims and rushed to the spot.
While four persons including heart- patient, Resham Bibi and her husband died on the spot, fifth one was killed on way to District Hospital Rajouri.
Sixth person driver of the vehicle, resident of Kalakote succumbed to injuries while being shifted to GMC Hospital, Jammu, near Chowki Choura (Akhnoor) this morning. Par-vez Akhtar (32), wife of Ghulam Hussain, resident of Sabzi, Dodaj was struggling for life in GMC Hospital, Jammu.
The deceased were identified as Mohd Hussain (60), son of Khuda Baksh, his wife Resham Bi (56), their 25-year-old son, Mohd Hussain, residents of Sabzi village in Dodaj; Muneer Hussain, son of Abdullah, resident of Darhali Morh in Rajouri, Mohd Bashir (a PWD employee) , son of Ghulam Mohd of Sabzi , Dodaz and driver of the vehicle Mohd Shabir of Kalakote in district Rajouri.
A senior police officer said that immediately after the incident, some villagers contacted Police Control Room Rajouri and a message was flashed to Darhal Police Station. The police team along with Medical team from Darhal hospital in an ambulance reached the spot and the three seriously injured persons were first shifted to DH Rajouri. The dead bodies of the deceased persons were removed to Darhal hospital and later handed over to the family members for performing last rites. The entire rescue operation was completed by 3.30 am, he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commi-ssioner, Rajouri Mohd Aijaz Asad sanctioned Rs one lakh as relief assistance to the victims of this road accident at Dodaj in Darhal. An official spokesman said that an amount of Rs 45,000 was immediately sanctioned to next of kin of a family who lost three members for performing last rites of the deceased. A relief amount of Rs 15,000 each was sanctioned in favour of next of kin of three other persons who lost life in accident and Rs 10,000 assistance to the injured.
Meanwhile, a driver was killed after a Tata Sumo No. JK-12/ 8247 rolled down into a deep gorge in Kalaban area of Mendhar in district Poonch this evening. The deceased was identified as Mohd Yousuf, son of Mohd Nazir, resident of Kalaban area.
