Court awards life-imprisonment to husband

JAMMU, Feb 17: Principal Sessions Judge Reasi, Y P Kotwal today awarded life-imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to Mohd Nadir, son of Main Bakerwal of Mahore for murdering his wife Mahroof as she could not give birth to any child.
According to the police case, on January 7, 2009 Police Post Arnas received an information that dead body of Mahroof, wife of Mohd Nadir was lying in a pond near the house of her husband in suspicious condition.
Accordingly, the body was recovered and during the course of investigation it came to the fore that accused used to maltreat his wife as she could not give birth to any child. As the accused wanted to contract second marriage, on January 6, 2009 the accused killed Mahroof by strangulating her with a rope.
After hearing Public Prosecutor MM Sharma for the State whereas Advocate K K Dubey for the accused, Principal Sessions Judge Reasi YP Kotwal observed, “the prosecution has proved the guilt of the accused and the circumstances are conclusive in the nature to exclude every hypothesis but the one proposed to be proved”, adding “the chain of evidence is absolutely complete”.
Accordingly, the accused was convicted under Section 302 and awarded life-imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000.
