JAMMU, May 31: The Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi today said that construction of an international cricket stadium for any purpose is a policy decision to be taken either by the Government or the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports or the relevant stakeholders such as BCCI and JKCA.
The observation was made in a PIL seeking direction to JKCA for immediately starting the construction of international stadium at Bajalta soon after the release of already sanctioned amount of Rs 100 crore.
“In the event, any of those authorities are interested in constructing a cricket stadium of international repute, it is open for them to go ahead and to arrange necessary infrastructure including land and funds and to seek help from any other concern authorities as it may deem fit or may arrange funds in the form of subsidy or otherwise from any institution or the Government body”, the DB said.
“The court in exercise of its extraordinary jurisdiction does not find itself competent enough to decide whether any international cricket stadium is necessary and required to be constructed in Jammu”, the DB added.
