Court denies bail to police cop

JAMMU, Jan 15: City Judge Jammu, Sandeep Kour rejected the bail application of a police constable Babu Ram, who swindled an amount of Rs 545000 on the pretext of providing job to the complainant.
According to the police case, on December 29, 2014, a complaint was lodged to the effect that accused, who is police official, told the complainant that he was serving in the office of DIG Udhampur Range where recruitment can be made of unemployed youth from outside the State on the pattern of Central Forces.
The accused further impression gave an impression that he was Personal Assistant to DIG and also a member of Selection Committee as such he can recruit the wards of the complainant in the Police Department as constable.
On the assurance of the accused, the complainant paid Rs 665000 and Rs 7 lakh respectively to the accused for recruitment of their wards. But accused failed to recruit their wards and defrauded the complainant.
During the investigation, it came to the fore that accused had also induced so many other people and swindled Rs 5450000.
After hearing Senior Prosecuting Officer Anshuman Dubey appearing for the State, City Judge Jammu observed, “in the instant case the fact also cannot be ignored that the investigation is in initial stage and the trial is yet to be commence. Further prosecution has also shown apprehension of the accused absconding and tampering with the investigation”, the court said.
With these observations, court rejected the bail application.
