JAMMU, June 26: Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu, S C Katal today rejected the bail application of Nitin Mehra, cricketer turned robber, who was arrested by the Bakshi Nagar Police in alleged robbery at Senior Advocate SS Lehar’s house at gun point on February 7, 2014.
After hearing both the sides, CJM observed, “Senior Prosecuting Officer Rajeswar Basotra has resisted the present application on the ground that the offences are non-bailable and accused is habitual offender and if bail is granted he will again commit the similar offence thereby causing hue and cry in the society”.
After hearing Senior PO Rajeshwar Basotra appearing for the State, CJM observed, “the overt-act of accused is sufficient to cause fear in the mind of peace loving citizen and keeping in view of the gravity of the nature of allegations, the requirement of accused for recovery of huge cash and social aspect of case, this court is of the opinion that it is not an appropriate stage where discretion to grant of bail is required to be exercised in favour of accused person”.
With these observations, Court rejected the bail application.
