SRINAGAR, June 11: Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey today asked J&K Rehabilitation Council to ensure that all registered beneficiaries including widows, orphans, handicapped, old person and militancy victims receive their monthly financial assistance regularly on time besides directing it to collect relevant data for extending and covering more such victims under the Scheme.
“Collect data from all districts and establish direct contact with the eligible persons and reach out to these people for ascertaining their needs and extend support to them”, he emphasized directing that Council should link them with other concerned departments and committed NGOs for lending extra support and care to these people.
Chairing its Executive Council meeting here, the Chief Secretary asked the Council to develop close liaison with National Foundation of Communal Harmony (NFCH) and ensure that all children registered with the NFCH receive financial assistance. During the last financial year out of the 5567 children registered with NFCH as many as 2592 were covered for financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 3.24 crore.
The Executive members reviewed the working of the Rehabilitation Council during the previous year and took stock of its functioning. It also discussed and approved the Action Plan for the year 2013-14 amounting Rs. 630 lakh to cover 7234 general category beneficiaries and Rs. 169.36 lakh for 2098 orphans of killed militants. It also approved continuation of various important programmes run by the Council and approved enhancement in financial assistance under various schemes.
The meeting was attended by Secretary NFCH Ashok Sajjanhar, Secretary Social welfare Department, Gazzanfar Hussain, Executive Director State Rehabilitation Council, Hafiza Muzaffar and other senior officers.
