SRINAGAR, Jan 18: A cricket academy in Ganderbal district, equipped with indoor facilities and coaching, is refining the skills of local children aspiring to play cricket for the nation.
Sprawling across 13 kanals of land, the academy boasts essential infrastructure, including indoor turfs, astro turfs and grass turfs, aimed at nurturing the overall skills of budding cricketers. The academy is staffed with coaches dedicated to imparting the necessary skills in all facets of the game, including fielding, bowling and batting.
While sharing his experiences, Meer Hamza, one of the young enthusiasts undergoing training at the academy, said, “We come here every day to learn the different skills of cricket. They teach batting skills for those who aspire to become batsmen and bowling for those who aim to become bowlers. They also instruct us in fielding skills. In short, they ensure our overall development.”
Haroon Rashid Khan, the founder of the academy and a corporate employee, explained his motivation. “Being a corporate employee, I frequently visit different States and observe kids practicing in such facilities all the time. There was no such facility in the Valley, so I decided to create one so that players from this region could represent the country,” he said.
Highlighting the accessibility of the academy for practice, Khan mentioned, “Children can practice in the nets every day and around the clock. We also have lights installed here, so they can come during the evening as well.”
Khan emphasized that two players from the academy have already participated in national-level competitions, and he aspires to see more players from the academy representing the country someday.
