JAMMU, Apr 25: Registrar University of Jammu, Prof Arvind Jasrotia inaugurated a Cricket turf at University Campus Ground in the presence of Prof Parkash C Anthal, Dean Student Welfare, students and trainees of Cricket Academy, here today.
Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education briefed that this is for the first time in the history of University that the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education has laid a Cricket turf which is going to be a meaningful infrastructure for the young generation.
He also briefed that due to the lack of turf, the matches and practice were carried out on matting which was a disadvantage for the players to compete well in Nationals and Inter-University competitions. “Now along with Cricket turf, dibbling of class-1 grass, water storage tank, and submersible pump were also installed in the Ground for the maintenance of the newly established facility,” he said.
He further said that three turf pitches and one matting pitch were laid in the Ground and two turf and two concrete pitches were also laid outside the Ground for the net practice of the players.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Jasrotia congratulated the Director Sports, coaches and the entire team for the construction of such a top-class Cricket Ground in the University Campus. “This facility in the Campus will definitely be helpful to groom the young cricketers,” he added.
An exhibition match was also played between teams of BP.Ed and MP.Ed teams after the inaugural ceremony.
Dr Komal Nagar I/c Assistant Director, Dr Vijay Sehgal, Dr Mandeep Singh, Suresh Sharma Xen, Akash Bhola AEE, Shammi Kumar, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Hai Bharat, Sanjeev Sharma and Ashok Bali were present during the event.
