JAMMU, May 15: A cricketer died on May 1 following injuries he sustained during the intervening night of April 24 and 25. The family members staged protest today and alleged that their kin was murdered by a group of persons.
The family members of a cricketer Rohit Sharma, son of Om Parkash and Swarna Devi, a resident of Patoli Brahmana along with relatives and locals staged protest and alleged that the Rohit Sharma was murdered and was not killed in an accident.
Talking to the EXCELSIOR, Arjun Kumar, brother of Rohit Sharma said that during the intervening night of April 24 and 25, his brother along with his friend Kuldeep of Patoli Brahmana were returning home.
“At around 2:15 am Kuldeep’s brother informed that the duo had met with an accident and after that we reached the spot. At around 4 am, police brought Rohit to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition. Citing critical condition of Rohit, we rushed him to PGI Chandigarh, where he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries on May 1”, he added.
He alleged that there is something fishy, as the accident took place near J&K Bank, Patel Nagar and my brother’s body was recovered from Rajpura-Talab Tillo Road while his sleepers were found near Triple-S Farms.
Arjun alleged that his brother has been killed and the police is not working out the case properly.
“We need justice and the persons behind the alleged murder of my brother should be booked under law”, he demanded.
When contacted, SSP Jammu, Uttam Chand told Excelsior that the matter is under investigation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted headed by SDPO West Sandeep Choudhary to work out the case.
