Srinagar, Aug 26: The students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today held a protest demanding that their exams be held in virtual mode in accordance with the guidelines of University Grants Commission.
The students from the university’s Department of Legal Studies gathered at Press Enclave here and raised slogans in support of their demands.
They urged the university authorities to promote them to the next level or conduct online exams as per UGC guidelines. “Our first and second semesters are pending, how we can apply for both semesters in offline mode,” a student said.
She alleged that during their first semester, the university administration postponed tests because they were awaiting the UGC rules on the conduct of examination. “Why are they not following the university norms now?” she asked
Students claimed that the university had been discriminatory in its promotion practices for students from various departments. “The University told students that they would be promoted, but that the University had been discriminatory in that students were promoted in some departments while others were left behind,” one student claimed.
The student said that the university had recently announced a schedule and was pressuring students to attend so that exams could be taken. “The students found it difficult due to a lack of transportation and accommodation facilities. We are not being given a hostel or transportation, and the epidemic is still present, so we are in a bad situation,” he said.
