Cultural extravaganza, sports events dominate Day-1 of JU’s Goonj 2024

JAMMU, Mar 19: Goonj-2024, a mega festival of Culture, Sports, Literary activities inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha here today witnessed a vibrant display of sports and cultural activities, showcasing the immense talent pool within the youth of Jammu.

Participants from the University and its affiliated colleges, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, and Cluster University of Jammu and its constituent colleges took part in a series of competitive events.
Participants engaged in a diverse range of activities, from sports competitions to cultural performances, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and sporting prowess of the region. In the cultural category, a myriad of events, including photography, Indian group song, poster making, light vocal, and skit competitions captivated audiences.
In the sports category, students participated in the competitive events of Volleyball (M), Handball (W), Kabaddi (M), Football (W), Kho-Kho (W), Kho-Kho (M) and Basketball (M).
The results in Volleyball (M) were SMVDU Katra beat BGSBU Rajouri by 2-0 set score (25-11, 25-23), GDC Ramgarh beat GDC Kunjwani by 2-0 set score (25-17, 25-23), Cluster University of Jammu beats GDC Kathua by 2-0 set score (25-11, 25-09), SMVDU Katra beat PG. Department JU by 2-1 set score (25-23, 21-25, 15-11) and GDC Ramgarh beat GDC Banihal by 2-1 set score (25-13, 23-25, 15-12). In the quarterfinals Cluster University Jammu beat GDC Khour by 2-0 sets scores (25-23, 25-17).
While in Handball (W) competitions GCW Parade beat GCW Udhampur by 8-1 goals. in Kabaddi (M) GDC Bhaderwah beat BGSBU Rajouri by 10 points with match score (20-10), SMVDU Katra beats GDC Poonch by 12 points with match score (24-12), Cluster University of Jammu beats GDC Doda by 07 points with match score (17-10), PG. Deptt. JU beat SMVDU Katra by 12 points with match score (22-10), GDC Samba beat GDC Bhaderwah by 08 points with match score (18-10), Cluster University of Jammu beat GDC Kathua by 16 points with match score (30-24).
In Football (W); SMVDU Katra beats GDC Kathua by 2-1 goals and SMVDU Katra beats PG. Deptt. JU by 2-0 goals. In Kho-Kho (W); GCW Parade beat SMVDU Katra by 05 points with score (10-05), GDC Jindrah beat GDC Billawar by 10 points with score (20-10), GDC Ramnagar beat GCW Parade by 06 points with score (16-10) and GDC Kathua beat GDC Jindrah by 02 points with score (12-10).
In the Kho-Kho (M) PG Deptt JU beat SMVDU Katra by 10 points with match score (16-06), GDC Samba beat BGSBU Rajouri by 02 points with match score (12-10) and GDC Kathua beat GDC Samba by 07 points with match score (17-10).
In Basketball (M) GCET Jammu beat Cluster University of Jammu with match score (61-54), SMVDU Katra beat BGSBU Rajouri with match score (33-2), GDC Kathua beat GDC Kunjwani with match score (65-36, PG. Deptt. JU beat GDC Kathua with match score (58-49 and PG. Deptt. JU beat SMVDU Katra with match score (51-49). The winners of these events will be awarded during the Valedictory function scheduled for tomorrow.
Later in the day, while interacting with the participating students from various Universities and Colleges, Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu commended the efforts of students for exhibiting their talent. He appreciated the camaraderie and sportsmanship of the participating teams and hoped that they will showcase their best talent.
In addition to the competitions, the teaching departments of the University of Jammu, affiliated colleges and Cluster University of Jammu seized the opportunity to showcase their best practices. They presented their innovative approaches through poster presentations, PPTs, and banners, highlighting their contributions to academics and research.
