JAMMU, Feb 16: Speaker, Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul today urged the need for promotion of the mother tongue among the people of the State, adding that mother tongue is the identity of the communities.
The Speaker was speaking at a function, on the eve of World Radio Day, organized by Radio Sharda 90.4 FM, a community Radio of NGO Pir Panchal (CESES) Org here today.
He said that Radio Sharda is playing a pivotal role in showcasing and preserving culture and languages of the State. He said our State is abode of several languages and cultures which gives strength to our commitment for unity in diversity. Mr. Gul asked the members of Radio Sharda to involve more budding artists and cover more areas especially far-off and remote pockets.
The Speaker praised the people in maintaining the concept of unity in diversity of State which, he said was a miniature India.
He said that culture is the basic binding of people to get connected to the land through language and Radio Sharda can play a great role in propagating it.
President, Pir Panchal, Ramesh Hangloo in his address said that we are committed for preserving the mother tongue among the people of the State. He said Radio Sharda has given the sense of belonging to its listeners all-round the globe among all section of the society and feels proud about the response generated from the listeners.
Director Information, Tasadeq Jeelani, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Kiran Watal, Secretary Khadi & Village Industries, Afroz Mir, Chairman Migrant Cell, Rural Development Society, Ashok Koul and other Members of society especially the Executive of Pir Panchal Organization were present on the occasion.
Later, the Speaker distributed mementos among the 35 artists on the occasion.
Kiran Wattal Commissioner said language is the main connectivity to inspire the objectives of society. He asked the Radio Sharda management to expand the frequency so that the large people are benefited.
Behari Kak, Rohita Razdhan Thaploo were among 35 artists who were felicitated on the occasion.
The artists, who performed on the occasion included Usha Handoo, Surinder Manhas, Tsweng Dorjee, Zulikha, Mayor Raj Group and Nimish.
