JAMMU, Oct 3: Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (CWS), MIER organized an extension lecture on the topic “Developing Self Esteem among Young Women.”
The resource person was Dr Aarti Bakshi, HoD, Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, Jammu. Dr Renu Gupta, Principal and Director, MIER presided over the function. HoDs of various Departments of the College besides the staff and students of the BEd and MEd were present on the occasion.
At the commencement of the programme, a wall magazine based on the topic “Women and Self-esteem” was inaugurated by the resource person.
In her welcome address, Dr Renu Gupta said, “There is a correlation between self-esteem and achievement of a student or a person. Self-esteem and related emotions instill a sense of success and the confidence when a set goal is accomplished. Stereotype roles in the society also have impact on the self-esteem of an individual. Therefore, there is need to improve the self-esteem of young women”.
In her address, Dr Bakshi told the audience that self-esteem reflects a person’s overall emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. Self-esteem encompasses belief as well as emotions. She explained the audience 12 steps to enhance one’s self-esteem and urged the young audience to incorporate that in their life for high self-esteem and always feel good about them.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which the audience participated enthusiastically and posed their queries.
The programme was conducted by Rithima Singh Manhas, a BEd student while Monika Rathore, Coordinator, CWS MIER, presented formal vote of thanks.
