LEH, July 25: Spiritual leader Dalai Lama reached here today on a month long visit and addressed gathering of dignitaries at Jive-tsal Photang Shey.
He said he is a no special human being but these are the people, who have given him the status of the Dalai Lama. He said that his first commitment is to promote humanity, which facing lot of problems including killings. He called these problems man-made and asserted that they can’t be solved through prayers but can be reduced by our efforts through action.
Dalai Lama said that promotion of religious harmony is his second commitment and expressed admiration for the rich harmony that exists in Ladakh between Buddhist and Muslim communities and urged all the religious heads to maintain it as he made mention of it everywhere.
“India is the only country where all major old rich traditions live together besides the home grown traditions and religions which projects serious religious harmony,’’ he added.
He was given a warm reception by the people of Ladakh on his nearly month long visit to Leh today from KGB Airport Leh to Jive-tsal Photang, Shey.
Minister for Ladakh Affairs and Cooperatives- Tsering Dorjey, CEC, LAHDC, Leh- Dr. Sonam Dawa, Executive Councilors and all the political leaders, Councillors, Rinpoches, Lamas and religious heads, LBA president and members, administration, security forces officials, eminent local personalities and foreign guests were present during the reception.
Dalai Lama stressed upon every individual to contribute in ensuring peaceful humanity which, he said, can be attained only through inner peace.
“Logically world peace comes through inner peace and warm heartedness is the key factor for compassion and inner peace which can be achieved through education,’’ he said, adding that even scientists today find compassion as the basic human nature and emphasized on strengthening the education system based on inner values and moral ethics without religious biases rather than material and physical values.
He mentioned about the education curriculum draft on secular ethics from kindergarten till university level and advised to introduce it in Ladakhi education system once it get finalized towards the end of this year .
“The curriculum is drafted to fit in a secular education system which can be followed by any religion to develop inner peace from childhood,’’ he said and stressed on the need to study and understand religion than just doing prayers and said that his purpose of visiting Leh is to promote monasteries as an academic institution based on Nalanda Education System by having a religion subject teacher called stadub-lobon.
Dalai Lama said he has taken total retirement from politics since 2011 but he still holds the responsibility to promote Tibetan culture of peace, non violence and compassion world-wide including rich Buddhist knowledge.
He also stressed on the need to preserve environment and appealed as a friend to all the Ladakhis to contribute in promotion and preservation of ecology. He called Tibetan Buddhism as complete form of Nalanda tradition in terms of knowledge and Tibetan language the best and expressed his commitment on promotion of Tibetan Buddhist culture.
