JAMMU, Nov 8: The third day of the All India Inter-University Fencing (Men & Women) Championship 2024-25 saw intense competition at the University Gymnasium Hall. The events featured Epee Women’s Team, Epee Men’s Team, and Sabre Individual Women’s competitions. The tournament is being organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Manjushree Dayanand, Executive Director of the Regional Centre, SAI Chandigarh, graced the session as the chief guest. She commended the University of Jammu for its efforts in promoting sports and expressed interest in a future collaboration between SAI and JU to enhance the development of sports. Dayanand discussed the potential MoU between SAI and the University, which will focus on organizing various sports events and sharing infrastructure and expertise.
She also interacted with the fencers, along with Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Dr. Sangita Sheroan, Deputy Director, SAI Chandigarh, and other notable officials, including Rashid Ahmed Chowdhary, Competition Director, and Aman Sharma, Senior Basketball Coach, SAI Jammu.
In the Epee Women’s team event, Guru Kashi University Bathinda secured the gold, GNDU Amritsar won the silver, and Manipur University and Punjab University Chandigarh took home the bronze medals.
In the Epee Men’s Team competition, Chandigarh University Mohali claimed the gold, GNDU Amritsar earned the silver and Kurukshetra University and University of Jammu shared the bronze.
In the Sabre Individual Women’s event, Rishika Khajuria of GNDU Amritsar won the gold, Shreya Gupta (GNDU) bagged the silver and Abi Devi Laishram (LPU Punjab) and Beni Quebha (Punjabi University Patiala) took the bronze.
