JAMMU, Nov 23: In the Public Interest Litigation filed by J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu regarding construction of lawyers chambers and black-topping of new parking, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Bansi Lal Bhat today directed the Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary Finance to release funds or appear in person on next date of hearing.
After hearing Advocates Abhinav Sharma and Pranav Kohli appearing for the Bar Association whereas AAG Ehsan Mirza with Deputy AG Sheikh Faraz Iqbal appearing for the State, DB observed, “it is stated by counsel appearing for the Bar Association that order of this court dated 01.05.2015 giving direction to sanction Rs 4 crore for construction of lawyers chambers in District Court Complex and Rs 50 lakh for parking area has not been complied with except release of Rs 2 crore for construction of lawyers chambers in District Court Complex and Rs 25 lakh for car parking”.
Upon this, counsel appearing for Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary Finance sought some time to get instructions as to why the amount is not being sanctioned.
Taking serious note of this, the DB said, “in case the order dated 01.05.2015 is not complied with, Chief Secretary and Commissioner Secretary Finance have to appear in person for committing contempt of the court on the next date of hearing”.
