JAMMU, Oct 10: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Sanjeet Kumar regarding pollution from Katra to Bhawan, Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal today issued notice to Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board and others.
When the PIL came up for hearing, Bench Secretary of the Court placed an application written by one S K Srivastva of Chandigarh to Chief Justice. In the application he has submitted that on his visits to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine he has always noticed trash in form of waste food material, plastic waste, cups and several other pollution creating items dumped on the mountain slopes. The applicant has also sought intervention of the Governor of the State.
Accordingly, Division Bench directed that application moved by SK Srivastva shall also form part of present PIL espousing the same cause and arrayed Executive Officer Municipal Council Reasi, Deputy Commissioner Reasi and Chief Executive Officer Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board as party respondents.
The DB issued notice to all the respondents returnable within four weeks with the direction to Registry to list this PIL in the week commencing October 28, 2013.
Seema Shekhar, Additional Advocate General accepted notice on behalf of State respondents whereas Advocate Rohit Kapoor accepted notice on behalf of CEO SMVDSB.
