JAMMU, Dec 15: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting dilapidated condition of roads in Jammu and Kashmir, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today issued notices to Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secr-etary, Public Works Department, Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, Commissioners of JMC and SMC and Commissioner Secretary PHE for filing response within six weeks.
In the PIL filed by Advocate Jasvinder Singh, it has been submitted that roads in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir particularly in rural areas are mostly in dilapidated condition. “There are potholes and ditches which are not properly leveled and surfaced. Moreover, wherever the footpaths exist the same are either in poor condition or encroached upon by the shopkeepers”, the petitioner said.
After hearing Advocate Parveen Kapahi for the PIL whereas Deputy AG Farz Iqbal appearing for the State, the DB issued notices to Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary PWD, Divisional Commissioners of Jammu/ Kashmir, Commiss-ioners of JMC/SMC and Commiss-ioner Secretary PHE to file response within six weeks.
